Read and notice.
An observation describes what you notice. A question asks what you want to understand. “This leaf has five points” is an observation. “Do all the leaves on this plant have five points?” is a question.
Try it.
- Observe a familiar plant from a safe place with an adult. A drawing or photograph also works.
- Record three visible details without tasting, picking, or handling unfamiliar plants.
- Write a question that could be explored by observing or comparing.
Your response
Record three observations and one question. Which parts are observations, and which part is your question?
