Decide what you will record before beginning. Describe your observations with enough detail that another person can understand them.
Compare.
When comparing two conditions, consider what changes and what remains the same. Repeated observations can help you see whether a result is consistent.
Read and interpret.
Research can also compare sources or study an existing dataset. Record where the evidence came from, distinguish the source from your interpretation, and explain what your method cannot establish.
